국문 초록

This paper studies the cognitive characteristics of spatial and temporal metaphors in Mongolian and Korean using examples of compound words containing the names of the five senses. The main findings are as follows. There are words that express time through human body movements, such as the moment of a wink, the moment of the blink of an eye, the moment of a clap of hands, etc. In particular, the concept of space refers to the place of being and moving, such as “front-back”, “back-front”, “above-below”, “inside-outside”, “front-behind”, etc., “above-below”, “up-below” and “up-below” are part of compound words to create words with a shifted meaning, such as “to be in front of the eyes”, “to pass by the ears”, “to be under the nose”. Through research, we can see that in Mongolian and Korean, temporal expressions such as “to turn over one's palm”, “to blink”, “to close one's eyes”, and “to almost make eye contact” are expressed by conceptualizing body language. In the case of the word “the corner of the eye”, space is expressed by conceptualizing body language as “in front of the eyes, the tip of the ear, the tip of the ring finger, in front of the nose. Raise the thumb. Raise the hand. The word ‘in front of the eyes’ used in time expressions has a spatial meaning of ‘in front of the eyes or a close place that can be seen with the eyes’, which has been expanded to a temporal meaning of ‘very near future’. In addition, the compound word ‘mokjeon’ formed by the Chinese character ‘목(目)’ corresponding to ‘eyes’ has also expanded from the basic meaning of ‘in front of the eyes’ to the meaning of ‘very near future’, just like ‘in front of the eyes’. The conceptual metaphor applied to these time expressions is the [time-oriented] conceptual metaphor mentioned above. That is, the observer who exists in the present is looking toward the future, and there is a distant future far ahead of him, and a near future near ahead of him. Therefore, ‘in front of the eyes’ and ‘mokjeon’, which mean ‘a close place that can be seen with the eyes’, represent ‘the near future’. Lower the eyes. Lower the hand. Go out of the hand. Put it in the hand. Come under the nose. Hold the hand.” In Korean, there are temporal expressions that are combined with body language, such as 'a split second' or 'a split second'.
