『여씨춘추』의 생사관 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 『여씨춘추』의 생사관을 개괄한 것이다.『여씨춘추』의 생사관은 주로 ｢십이기｣에 분포되어 있는데, 봄에 속한 ｢본생｣, ｢중기｣, ｢귀생｣, ｢정욕｣, ｢진수｣편에는 생명관이 집중적으로 서술되고, 겨울에 속한 ｢절상｣, ｢안사｣, ｢사절｣, ｢충렴｣편에는 죽음관이 집중적으로 서술된다. 여불위가 『여씨춘추』를 기획한 의도는 당시 법가의 군주 전제론을 견제하고, 군주를 권면하기 위해서이며, 나아가 통일제국의 번영과 안정을 도모하려는 데 있었다. 이러한 여불위의 정치적인 의도는 생사관에도 그대로 드러난다. 본 논문이 선행연구와 다른 점은 『여씨춘추』의 생사관을 생명관과 죽음관으로 구분하여 각각의 특징을 분석하고 종합했다는 점이다. 『여씨춘추』의 생명관은 군주를 겨냥하여 양생을 강조한 반면, 죽음관은 신하를 겨냥하여 사생(捨生)을 강조했는데, 이것은 여불위의 정치적인 의도가 반영된 구도이다. 먼저 생명관에서 양생의 원칙으로 제기한 생명 중시사상은 당시 진나라의 통치이념인 법가의 엄벌주의에 대한 비판의 일환이다. 그리고 절욕은 군주의 사치에 대한 권면을 담고 있다. 『여씨춘추』의 죽음관에서는 국가와 군주를 위해서 생명을 바친 충신들과 목숨을 걸고 군주에게 간언하는 의로운 신하를 소개한다. 이를 통해서 여불위가 신하의 유위를 전제로 한 군주의 무위를 주장하는 무위정치론을 선호했으며, 사생도 불사하는 훌륭한 인재와 이러한 인재를 등용하는 군주와의 협업체계를 강조했음을 알 수 있다. 여불위가 이토록 충신과 인재를 강조한 것은 진왕의 권력집중을 제한하고, 군주와 신하가 권력을 나누자는 정치적 의도가 담겨있는 것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the view of life and death in 『Lüshichunqiu』was summarized. The view of life and death in 『Lüshichunqiu』is found mainly in ｢Sibigi(The Twelve Records｣. The discussion on the view of life is focused in the chapters of ｢Bonsaeng｣, ｢Junggi｣, ｢Gwisaeng｣, ｢Jeongyok｣, and ｢Jinsu｣, which all belong to spring, while that on the view of death is concentrated in a discussion in the chapters of ｢Jeolsang｣, ｢Ansa｣, ｢Sajeol｣, ｢Chungryeom｣, which all belong to winter. By planning 『Lüshichunqiu』, LǚBùwéi intended to hold the ruling theory of despotic king of the School of Law of those times in check, encourage monarchs, and furthermore, pursue prosperity and stability of the unified empire. This political intention of Lǚ Bùwéi is also revealed through the view of life and death. This thesis is different from previous research in that the view of life and death of 『Lüshichunqiu』 was categorized into the view of life and the view of death and the characteristics of each view were analyzed and synthesized. While the view of life in 『Lüshichunqiu』 targets monarchs and emphasizes life-nurturing, the view of death targets vassals and emphasizes devotion of life(捨生, Sasaeng), which is the structure where Lǚ Bùwéi's political intention is reflected. First, the philosophy of respect for life suggested as a principle of life-nurturing in the view of life is a part of criticism of severe criminal punishment of Legalism, the governing ideology of Qin Dynasty. And abstinence contains encouragement regarding a monarch's extravagance. In the view of death in『Lüshichunqiu』, loyal vassals who sacrificed their life for their nations and monarchs, and righteous vassals who reconstructed to a monsrch risking their life are introduced. It shows that Lǚ Bùwéi preferred the theory of Non-Action Politics that claims a monarch's doing nothing on the premise of vassals' doing something, and highlighted great, talented men risking their own life and death, and the cooperation system with a monarch appointing these talented individuals. Lǚ Bùwéi stressed loyal vassals and talented men much for the political intention of limiting the concentration of power to a monarch and dividing power between a monarch and vassals.
