국문 초록

본 논문은 1950년대 전반기 일본영화 속 핵무기의 기술 표상과 시대적 함의에관한 연구의 결과물이다. 1950년대 들어 일본에서는 GHQ의 대 일본 점령 정책의 전환 이후 ‘샌프란시스코강화조약’의 체결 및 발효, 그리고 이에 따른 영화 정책의 변화를 배경으로 히로시마와 나가사키의 ‘원폭 사건’을 다룬 일련의 영화들이 만들어졌다. 이들 작품에는 핵무기의 형상이나 투하 과정이 담겨 있지는 않으나, 원폭 후의 자연 현상이 기록 영상으로 제시되고 피폭의 참상이 다각적으로연출되어 있다. 이로써 원폭/피폭의 사실성과 비극성이 표출된다. 한편, 냉전 체제 하 미소 간 군비 경쟁이 격화되는 과정에서 원자폭탄의 위력을 훨씬 뛰어넘는수소폭탄이 개발되었는데, 미국의 수폭 실험 중 일본 선박이 방사능 피해를 입기도 하였다. 그리고 이러한 실제 사건을 모티브로 한 SF 괴수영화 <고지라>(1954) 가 제작-개봉되어 커다란 반향을 일으켰다. 특수촬영 등 기술력을 앞세워 관객에게 볼거리와 현실감을 선사한 이 작품에서, 핵무기의 이미지는 여전히 직접적으로 형상화되지 않는다. 대신에, ‘수폭 괴수’ 고지라를 매개로 핵무기의 파괴력과이로 인한 피해의 가능성이 암시된다. 이를 통해 원폭-수폭 영화들은 반핵, 반전메시지를 드러낸다. 그러나 동시에 당대의 시대적 조건의 영향으로 주제 의식의한계를 노출시키기도 한다.

영문 초록

This paper is a result of study about the technological symbol of nuclear weapons and implications on the period in Japanese films in the first half 1950s. In the 1950s, after the GHQ’s transition to the Japanese occupation policy, the San Francisco Consolidation Treaty was concluded and movie policy was changed. Based on this situation, some films related to the “Atomic Bombing” of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were produced. Although these films do not descript nuclear weapons’ figure and atomic bombing directly, not only the natural phenomena are represented as documentary images but also misery of being bombed are displayed in various ways. These images reveal the factuality and tragedy after atomic bombs/exposures. On the other hand, as arms race between U.S. and Soviet Union under the Cold War system was intensified, the hydrogen bomb which exceeded the power of atomic bombs was developed. There was an event that a Japanese ship was exposed to radioactivity because of the hydrogen bomb experiment by U.S. An SF monster movie “Godzilla”(1954) with the motive of these actual events was produced, released and resonated with audiences. In this film, which shows spectacle and reality to the audience with special techniques such as special shooting, the nuclear weapon image still does not appear directly. Instead, the nuclear weapons’ destructive power and devastating effects are implied through ‘Hydrogen Bomb Monster’ Godzilla. By showing different images, the atomic-bomb films manifest anti-nuclear and anti-war message. At the same time, however, they reflects the limitation of manifesting theme under the contemporary conditions of the time.
