Purpose: Thyroidectomy is safe surgery with low morbidity hypocalcemia remains one of the most common complications. Determining the incidence of hypocalcemia post thyroidectomy will help physicians to anticipate and treat it, the aim of the study is to determine the incidence of hypocalcemia post thyroidectomy and the factors associated with it. Methods: A retrospective study conducted including 160 patients during the period from January 2018 to December 2022. The study included All adult patients underwent thyroidectomy. Post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia was evaluated in relation to the risk factors. Results: One hundred sixty patients were included in the study, majority were female. Of all patients, 28 (17.5%) had temporary hypocalcemia, most of them were within the first day after surgery. Most common indication was suspicious nodule followed by multimodule nodule goiter. Total thyroidectomy was the most common surgery performed. There was no significant association between the incidence of hypocalcemia and sex, age, and type of thyroid disease. However, there was a significant association between the incidence of hypocalcemia and type of operation (P=0.0005). Conclusion: The early detection of patients at risk of developing post-operative hypocalcemia allows for a safe and timely discharge. risk of post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia was higher in patients who underwent total thyroidectomy.
