영문 초록

The vestibular schwannoma is a benign, usually slow-growing tumor that frequently occurs in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA). As the schwannoma grows, it often results in ataxia, numbness, weakness, facial pain and paralysis, loss of coordination and balance, and unilateral hearing loss. In such cases, surgical treatment may be considered. In this case report, we present a 44-year-old female patient with progressive hearing loss, facial paresthesia, and gait disturbance. The patient was diagnosed with a large vestibular schwannoma in the medial CPA via computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Under general anesthesia, total tumorectomy via the presigmoid and retrosigmoid approaches was performed on the left side in an attempt to alleviate the patient’s symptoms. There were no incidences of recurrence or complications in the 12 months following the successful operation. We report this case with a review of literature.
