국문 초록

현재 한국교회가 직면한 중요한 과제 가운데 하나는 성서의 진리와 한국의 전통적인 삶의 지혜와 현재의 삶의 이야기들이 만나 보다 창조적이고 상황적이며 역동적으로 해석될 수 있는 성서교육의 방법을 모색하는 것이다. 한국교회는 서구화된 기독교전통을 무비판적으로 수용한 반면, 한국 전통과 문화의 수용에는 소극적인 자세를 취하여 왔다. 특히 문화적, 인종적으로 다원화 사회로 접어드는 현 시점에서 비서구적인 전통을 수용하고 존중하는 교육방법을 모색하는 것은 중요한 과제이다. 이러한 시점에서 서구 백인 중심의 교육을 비판하고 아프리카 문화유산을 긍정하고 재발견하여 성서 전통과 흑인들의 문화적 유산과 현재의 경험들을 창조적이고 역동적으로 해석하는 과정을 통해 새로운 삶의 지혜와 통찰력을 얻고 있는 흑인들의 성서해석과 교육방법들은 많은 통찰력을 제공해 주고 있다. 흑인교육학자들은 보다 실천적이고 구체적인 성서교육 전략들을 통해 동시대를 살아가는 흑인들 사이의 연대만이 아니라, 해방과 자유를 위해 투쟁해 온 자신들의 조상들과 성서의 인물들과의 연대를 통해 흑인들이 자신들의 삶의 방향을 결정하고 구체적인 행동으로 실천할 수 있도록 돕는다. 이러한 흑인신학의 성서해석과 교육방법을 통해 한국의 성서교육은 다음과 같은 통찰력을 얻을 수 있다. 첫째, 한국의 성서교육은 문자적인 성서교육의 한계를 벗어나서 보다 구술적이고 청각적인 방식으로 삶의 이야기들을 새롭게 엮고 표현할 수 있는 방법을 모색해야 한다. 둘째, 한국의 성서교육은 서구 중심의 사고를 극복하고 한국의 전통과 문화를 긍정하고 존중하는 교육방법을 모색해야 한다. 셋째, 한국의 성서교육은 공동체적 위기와 문제점을 명확하게 인식하고 구체적인 삶의 전략들을 형성할 수 있도록 돕는 교육방법을 모색해야 한다. 마지막으로 한국의 성서교육은 문화적 특수성과 다양성을 긍정하고, 특히 소수자들의 문화와 전통을 존중할 수 있도록 하는 교육방법을 모색해야 한다.

영문 초록

One of the important tasks of teaching the Bible in Korean Christian community is to develop educational methods in order to more creatively and dynamically interpret three stories; the biblical truths, Korean traditional heritage, and present life stories. Many Korean Christian have a strong traditional missionary inheritance and have hesitated to accept Korean traditional culture and heritage as a part of Korean Christianity. Korean society has been rapidly faced with a multi–cultural and multi–racial society and needs to develop educational methods to respect cultural heritages and to celebrate its diversity. In this educational context, the biblical interpretation and educational methods of African–American theology, that has dynamically reconstructed biblical traditions, African heritage, and present experiences, may provide important insights to Korean Christian communities. African–American theologians insist that African–Americans need to be liberated from Eurocentric biblical interpretation, to recontextualize African tradition and culture, and to reinterpret the Bible as the words of liberation and freedom. Especially womanist theologians who are marginalized by gender and ethnicity have recovered the diverse voices of the oppressed within biblical texts and recreated a vision and promise of a world where the humanity of everyone will be fully valued. African–American educators have developed concrete and practical methods to interpret the Bible in order to build solidarity with biblical figures and their ancestors who struggled toward liberation and freedom and to discern God’s call for concrete action. Based on the study of African–American theology, this paper suggests four tasks of teaching the Bible in Korean Christian education. First of all, Korean Christian educators need to develop educational methods in order to overcome literal interpretation of the Bible and to express its diverse meanings through oral methods, visual images, rhythmic music and dance. Second, educators need to overcome Western centered thoughts and to recontextualize Korean cultural heritage. Third, educators have to recognize the communal crises in Korean society and church and suggest concrete educational strategies. Finally, they need to acknowledge the multi– cultural context and to develop educational methods to celebrate cultural uniqueness and diversity.
