영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the process through which Japan transitioned to cashless policy, which is becoming increasingly popular in the recent years. Composition/Logic: First, in Section II, we present the previous studies related to cashlessization in Japan. Section III summarizes the concept and characteristics of electronic payment, and then examines the transition process of Japan to a cashlessization policy. In Section IV, we present the status and problems of the electronic payment market in Japan, and suggest ways to improve them. Finally, Section V summarizes the contents of this article. Findings: As a result of this study, the problems of the current electronic payment market in Japan were identified. They include a lack of integrated circuit (IC) correspondence at payment terminals, lack of international standard of IC card, frequent card information leakage, an increase in consumer anxiety about biometric information utilization as a security authentication medium for electronic payment. In order to solve this problem, it is important to have IC correspondence in payment terminals, establish international standards for IC cards, increase security of electronic payments, and implement biometric information security processes. Originality/Value: This study is significant in that it can be used as basic data for the advancement of Japanese card companies in the future. After outlining the process through which Japan transitioned to a cashless policy, the study provides insights to card companies by understanding the actual situation and problems of the electroni c payment market in Japan
