국문 초록

일반적으로 지급결제란 경제주체들이 경제활동에 따른 채권채무관계를 지급수단을 이용하여 해소하는 행위로 정의된다. 지급결제 방식은 통화를 사용하는 방식으로부터 신용카드 결제 및 계좌 이체와 같은 가상 거래의 방식으로 진화되었다. 특히 근래에 들어서는 스마트폰의 확산에 따라 모바일 지급결제와 같은 방식으로 발전되기에 이르렀다. 그러나 당초 기대와 달리 현재까지 모바일 지급결제 서비스가 충분히 확산되지 못하고 있으며, 일부 서비스의 경우 소비자의 욕구를 충족시키지 못한 채 시장에서 소멸되는 현상을 겪기도 하였다. 본 연구는 그동안 국내에 등장하였던 모바일 지급결제 서비스를 대상으로 한 역사적 고찰을 통해 관련 서비스의 현황을 분석하여 시사점을 제시함으로써 모바일 지급결제 서비스의 활성화에 기여하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 사용된 모바일 지급결제 서비스의 유형은 휴대폰 소액결제, 모바일 신용카드, 모바일 뱅킹, 모바일 지갑 등과 같은 서비스 모델 등이다. 모바일 지급결제 서비스에 대한 현황 분석은 각 서비스의 이용 주체인 사용자를 중심으로 하되 사용자 이외에도 금융권, 이동통신사, 단말기 제조사, 모바일 서비스업자, 가맹점 등의 이해관계자와 함께 정부의 입장도 고려하였다. 본 연구는 모바일 지급결제 서비스를 제공하는 국내 업체들이 대내외 경쟁력을 갖추기 위해 고려할 사항이 무엇인가에 대한 논의의 일환으로 시도되었다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구는 국내 모바일 지급결제 서비스 산업의 활성화 및 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대한다

영문 초록

Along with the widespread of smartphones, firms have agonized over ways to make transactions easier for consumers. These approaches have been attempted from several different angles, as well as by various industries, subsequently leading to the high diversity of mobile payment types provided to consumers. However, unlike the firms expected, mobile payment has not yet widespread enough, and despite their efforts and investments, numerous services have failed due to a lack of consumer endorsement. This thesis aims to historically retrace the mobile payment services that have been attempted domestically, as well as to study the problems the failed services had and the factors the moderately successful services had to be selected. As a frame to view the matter, service models such as mobile micropayments, mobile credit cards, mobile banking, and mobile wallets have been used for distinction, and the positions of each service and their related entities, which are the user, the finance industry, mobile carriers, cell phone manufacturers, mobile service providers, retailers, and government, have all been taken into consideration in the examination. This attempt intends to provide suggestions on points to consider for survival within the competition among global payment services, to prospective domestic mobile payment service firms
