한국 초등 교과서의 편집디자인 개선을 위한 미국사례와의 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학교 교과서의 한국과 미국의 삽화, 편집 등 디자인적 사례를 조사하고 비교분석함으 로써 한국 초등 교과서 편집 및 디자인적 요소의 개선을 제고하고자 하는 연구목적을 갖는다. 조사 대상 교과는 국어, 사회, 수학, 과학 4개의 교과서를 대상으로 하였으며, 외적체제의 요인별 관련사항과 편집 디자인에 관한 레이아웃, 포맷, 타이포그래피 및 일러스트레이션, 사진 등 항목별 내용을 각 과목별 로 조사, 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 편집디자인의 구성요소들을 감안, 이들 요소로 하여금 학생들에게 학습의 동기를 부여하고 학습내용의 이해를 높이며 이해력, 통찰력, 상상력 그리고 창의력 발달까지 감안하는 필요성이 요소별로 도출되었다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 연구방법을 적용한 분석결과에서 검출된 내용을 중심으로 다음과 같은 제언을 할 수 있다. 우리나라 교과서가 미국 교과서의 디자인적 요소에 비해 과목당 종수 및 지면당 비율 등에서 결코 떨어지는 것은 아니나, 산만함으로부터 요소 간의 연계성 및 통일성 그리고 질적인 면에서 좀 더 향상시킬 필요가 높은 것으로 비교되었다. 이러한 조사 분석을 토대로 볼 때 편집디자인의 구성요소들을 감안하여 적절한 수용과 기존의 장점을 더 부각시켜 학습능률을 높일 수 있도록 하는 것이 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 특히, 마킹처럼 지면의 단조로움 을 깨고 학습에 필요한 핵심내용을 돌출시켜 주목도를 높여주는 요소로 활용한다든지 문단에서 경우에 따라 왼쪽맞춤(뒤흘리기)이나 가운데맞춤 등을 유연하게 활용하는 것이 좋을 것으로 보인다. 또한 이미지의 사용 개수나 스타일도 많이 사용하는 것보다는 적절하면서 질적으로 공감대를 높일 수 있는 단조로운 사용이 필요하다고 할 수 있겠다. 교과서는 무엇보다 학생들에게 학습의 동기를 부여해야 하며 학습내용의 이해를 높이기 위해 텍스트 외에도 이미지 등을 활용해 이해력, 통찰력, 상상력 그리고 창의력 발달까지 감안해야 하는 종합적인 도서이다. 그에 따른 편집디자인은 전달하고자 하는 정보와 내용을 보다 분명하게 하여 학생들의 이해흡수에 용이할 수 있도록 기획되어야 하므로 교과서의 편집디 자인을 개선할 수 있는 지속적인 연구가 이어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

We can not overemphasize the importance of textbook which is not only the core instrument of school education, but also the national basis of knowledge and national indicator of education. Thus, we continuously study and develop for progressive textbook. It is more important to watch elementary school textbooks with deep concern, because the elementary procedure is the basic study stage and socialization period. Elementary school textbooks should produce adequately according to students' thinking faculty and development stage. These days, it is arisen continual troubles in elementary textbooks, therefore we have to improve the quality of elementary textbooks. Upon the seventh education procedure policy, examination criteria of textbook implies outfaced elements, such as, typography, illustration, photos, icons, line & surfaces, and so on. Nevertheless, it is sill raised a lot of complaint about design and visual elements of elementary textbooks. That means students' low satisfaction and requirement of improvement on textbook design and visual elements. For these needs and our goal, we analyzed 12 elements of our elementary textbooks' design and visual elements and compared those with American elementary textbooks in order to examine our problems and alternative devices. We compared using cross-matching method with some elements, such as 4 subjects (English & Korean, Mathematics, History & Society, Science), 1~6 grades, and design & visual elements. The suggestive results of this study were as below; 1. Typesetting is more various and sometimes bold in American elementary textbooks than ours. 2. In case of 'English' textbook, they use indent, initial, marking. we don't use those elements, but require examination in effect of attention and mutation. 3. We require to improve the quality in image expression. 4. We need to reduce style number of illustration and deco. image elements for systematic coordination.
