영문 초록

This study investigated the latent constructs of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), followed by the potential effects of anxiety and the extroversion/introversion personality trait on English speaking achievement. Participants were 107 university students learning English in Korea, and data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. One of the findings was that the items of the FLCAS consisted of two latent constructs: Communication Apprehension and Understanding and Communication Apprehension and Confidence. Another finding was that only Communication Apprehension and Understanding significantly influenced the extroversion/introversion personality trait and speaking achievement. However, the paths from the construct of Communication Apprehension and Understanding to the personality trait to speaking achievement failed to reach a significance level. These findings were discussed in depth, and further study areas to be explored in the future were suggested.
