영문 초록

This paper is a study on the effect of Bayt al-Ḥikmah on the development of the knowledge in Arab Islam world focusing on a center for translation. Bayt al-Ḥikmah was the core of knowledge renaissance in Abbasid dynasty and the translation was the core of it. The translation movement started in the time of al Manṣūr and was developed in the time of Harūn al Rashīd and was flourished in the time of al Ma'mūn. Al Manṣur started it for political purpose and al Ma'mūn promoted it for religious purpose. Many excellent translators who had different religions and nationalities, among them Persian mawālī and Syrian Nestorians, worked at Bayt al-Ḥikmah. They mobilized systematic techniques for high quality of translation as like system of supervision and revision and re-translation. The translation led to excellent writings and development of the knowledge and diffusion of education. Arabs produced the great and unique knowledge through translation movement and gave an evidence that the knowledge can't be restricted in a scope of a certain race or religion or civilization.
