영문 초록

In a Distributed Morphology (DM)-style analysis of the construction which consists of a verbal noun and ita in Korean, to account for non-nominal properties of a verbal noun, S.-Y. Park (2012) argues that a verbal noun projects a Root Phrase and that there are two dummy verbs which are inserted at PF to support T in Korean, ita and hata. After showing several problems and questions with her analysis, I propose a non-DM-style alternative in which such problems and questions are not raised. I argue that a verbal noun does not project a DP but an NP and that nominal properties such as licensing of GEN and an adnominal ending are licensed by a functional element. I also claim that ita is not a dummy verb but a realization of a nominative case marker as suggested in Choi (2001, 2003).
