Turbulence Is Deadly Scary, but I Want to Travel Abroad
I have suffered from panic attacks since the accident for 6 years. I thought I had forgotten about it mentally, but my body still remembers the accident. Since then, I haven't been able to fly abroad. News on typhoons keeps me awake at night because those remind me of the accident, and I'm easily startled. If my body perceives a threat, it paralyzes my reason, and extreme fear washes over me. As a result, six years passed without me being able to go on trips abroad I loved. I could not take flights because turbulence in flights is deadly scary.
How did I end up traveling this time anyway? I simply forgot that I was afraid of flights. It has been six long years since I have not been on overseas trips.
"Oh my, I have panic attacks!"
All of sudden, I realized it, as the plane started to shake. But it was already too late. I was heading to Hokkaido. I wrote this because I want to give courage to those who are afraid to travel, and to those who, like me, have an unmentionable disability or are physically ill, that they can still travel. Panic disorder doesn't show on the outside. Because of this, I'm often mistaken, and it lowered my self-esteem.
Even if you can't do much in a day. Even if there are a few bumps along the way. I want to tell you that there's a way to travel slowly, at your own pace, and that it's okay. When you look at the media, you only see people who are excellent in every way—whether it's their appearances, physiques, or academic backgrounds. There are times when I felt like I was falling behind the world's pace, like the person neglected, staying in one's small room all day long. I want people to know that there are more ordinary people than excellent people in the world. People like me wanted to have a voice too. Also, ordinary life, ordinary thinking, ordinary days are indeed the ones that sustain our lives.
