책소개

The objective of the Council for Asian Musicology shall be the advancement of research and study in the field of Asian music, for which purpose, all interested persons, regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin, are encouraged to become members. Its aims include serving the membership and council at large through the dissemination of knowledge concerning the music of the world’s peoples.

Asian Musicology is a refereed journal published onece a year (May 1) by the Council for Asian Musicology. The journal publishes original articles in the field of Asian music, broadly defined. Translations of previously published articles are generally not considered.

Asian Musicology welcomes articles on all aspects of the performing arts of Asia. Manuscript should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style and should be submitted to the editor (copy deadlines: March 15 and September 15). Contributors of essays will receive five free copies of the volume in which their essays appear. Contributors need not be members of the Council.

Asian Musicology functions as a vehicle for the exchange of ideas, news, and information. Inquiries pertaining to advertising in the journal should be directed to the editor of the journal.

International Conference for Strategies for Development of the Korean Wave 3.0 and the Value of Asian Traditional Music

The 2017 Conference of Counsel for Asian Musicology took place from Wednesday 22 November to Friday 25 November 2017 in Hochiminh, Vietnam, hosted by the Council for Asian Musicology.
The topic of the conference was "Strategies to Spread Korean Wave 3.0 and Values of Asian Traditional Music”, and twelve scholars from six countries participated and addressed current musical practices related to the theme.
Asian Musicology Vol. 28, academic journal of the Council for Asian Musicology, offers the articles on the basis of revisions of conference presentations.
The Council for Asian Musicology has been hosted conferences for ten times related to Korean music and five times for international conferences since its establishment in 1996. The 27th Journal of Asian Musicology has just published in March 2017 since its first issue in 2002. It is regarded as the only English academic journal for the studies of Asian musics published in the Asian region. It has been played an intermediary role for the western scholars, whose music researches focused mainly on the Asian regions, to gain easily access to this journal. Since the 2015 it has been co-operated with Professor Yuu Hui of Yunnan Conservatory in China and further expanded and became fulfilled its contents.
The theme of this conference is ‘Strategies for Development of the Korean Wave 3.0 and the Value of Asian Traditional Music. The Korean wave (Hallyu) has been developed since the late 1990s, and among the areas Korean dramas, films, online games have been explosively spreading. In K-pop, Gangnam Style performed by Psy in 2012 emerged most successfully as the representative Korean wave.
