The domestic and foreign situation of Korean cultural current



Korean stars are popular in Asian countries such as Japan, China, Taiwan, etc. NRG, Clon, Baby Vox, Ahn Jae Wook, and Lee Jung Hyun held their huge concerts in Beijing and Shanghai and became big stars. Cha In Pyo, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Hee Sun, and Kim Nam Joo, and others are enjoying tremendous popularity in Asian countries. Bae Yong Joon and Chjoi Ji Woo became the biggest stars in Japan, enjoying tremendous popularity too because of the TV drama named ‘Winter Sonata’. Especially Bae Yong Joon became a national hero in Japan with the nickname Yonsama. With the export of records, dramas, and movies of Korean stars to Asian countries, Korean food, fashion, and hair styles etc are popular among young people, too. In Mongolia, Korean food and used Korean cars are popular. Asian people who are interested in Korean stars and culture are coming in swarms to Korea. Enthusiastic fans from China, Japan, and Hong Kong are coming to Korea, and learning Korean, and singing Korean popular songs. Location for Korean dramas gets into the spotlight as the best tourist attractions. This is the Korean cultural current.
The Korean cultural current or the Korean cultural wind means the boom phenomenon of Korean culture that is gaining popularity in Asian countries. The fact that the Korean TV drama, Winter Sonata, arouses the boom of the Korean cultural current in Japan is the pinnacle of the Korean cultural current. Then, when did the Korean cultural current begin? It was in the late 1990s in East Asian countries, like China. The Korean cultural current is interwoven with the globalization of culture which is a transnational movement of cultural and industrial capital in the mutual cultural exchange. The boom of the Korean cultural current began when Korean cultural capital invaded the Asian cultural market crossing over the East Asian border.
