Father’s Tips for Success to His Son is based on my experiences leading Samsung’s global scholarship programs and contains heartfelt advice I shared with my two children. This book was written to share the insights I gained from nurturing global talent, offering practical wisdom to parents raising children and to young people seeking success and personal growth. I hope this book becomes a helpful guide on your journey.

The book is structured around conversations between a father and son as they travel to iconic places in the United States. Through these discussions, they explore 10 key themes, including setting goals, overcoming challenges, building relationships, achieving financial success, and finding true love and happiness. Each of the 70 lessons offers practical, actionable advice for real-life situations.

As a parent, I have set goals and worked hard to raise my children well. During my career at Samsung, I worked with leaders such as Lee Kunhee and Lee Jaeyong, and collaborated with presidents, professors, and experts at top universities in Korea and abroad, including Seoul National University and KAIST. My visits to universities across the United States, such as Harvard and Stanford, to meet Samsung Scholars provided the inspiration for much of the wisdom in this book.

Additionally, I learned effective study methods and growth strategies from these scholars, often called “study geniuses,” which can benefit students of all ages, from elementary school to high school.

I have also written several personal development books, including Letters of Growth for the Mind, The Life Reference Book, and Bestsellers Review, sharing insights with readers in Korea. My English-language books, such as Success Wisdom and Mindfulness and Wisdom Echoes, have brought Korean wisdom and positive messages to readers worldwide through Amazon. As a creator on Brunch, a popular platform in Korea, I continue to provide encouragement and practical advice to a wide audience.

I hope this book offers an opportunity for parents and children to read together and share meaningful conversations. From teenagers to adults, everyone can learn important skills and mindsets through this book, gaining insights to pursue success and happiness in life.

Dad: Son, look at the Brooklyn Bridge. So many people cross this bridge, each heading toward their own life goals. Seeing the people here who aren't afraid of challenges, I hope you can have the courage to pursue your life goals as well. Just like this bridge connects Manhattan and Brooklyn, courage will lead you to new opportunities and achievements.

Son: Yes, Dad. It feels like everyone here is rushing toward something important.

Dad: That's right. That's why I want to talk to you today about having the courage to chase your life goals. Your life goals are like a compass that guides you. But to achieve those goals, you need courage. Just as the Brooklyn Bridge connects two places, courage is the bridge that will connect you to your life goals. The journey in life won’t always be smooth. You will face many challenges, and there will be moments of failure. But remember, those challenges are not there to stop you, but to make you stronger.

Son: It sounds scary, Dad. What if I fail?

Dad: Failure is a part of the process of reaching your life goals. This bridge, too, faced many difficulties and challenges before it was finally completed. Many people have faced setbacks while chasing their goals, but success doesn’t come without perseverance. What matters is not that you fall, but that you get back up after falling. Every failure is a lesson, and it will bring you one step closer to your goal. True success comes from persistence, and the secret to success is getting back up every time you fall.

Son: So, you’re saying I shouldn’t give up, even when things get tough?

Dad: Exactly. Perseverance is the key to achieving your life goals. Continuous effort, steady challenges, and unwavering pursuit of your goals will lead you to success. Just as the Brooklyn Bridge connects two boroughs, your perseverance and courage will connect you to your life goals. The people who achieve great things are the ones who didn’t give up during tough times and kept moving forward.

Son: But what if things change? What if things don’t go as planned?

Dad: That’s also a part of life, son. The path to your life goals won’t always be a straight line. Just like the Brooklyn Bridge, sometimes you’ll encounter twists and turns. But each of those moments is an opportunity to learn. Embrace those moments, as they are also part of your journey. Focus on your goal, but be flexible in how you achieve it.

Son: I understand, Dad. So, I need to have courage, not give up, and learn from everything, right?

Dad: That’s right, son. Pursue your life goals with courage and perseverance. Especially when things get tough, believe in yourself. Your goals are worth the effort you put into them. Remember the confidence you felt when crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, and always keep in mind that the world is full of possibilities. Your job is to walk the path you’ve chosen with determination and passion.

Son: Thank you, Dad. I’ll remember that.

Dad: Son, the road of life can be long and challenging, but the rewards of patience and perseverance are great. Keep your life goals close to your heart, pursue them with all your might, and never give up. Just like the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge, I hope you achieve great success on the path you choose.
