“Appointment in Tomorrow” by Fritz Leiber is a science fiction novel set in the United States of the future. In this world, a group called 'thinkers' exert a powerful influence. They make important decisions for the country through superintelligent computers called 'Mages', claim communication with Mars, and spread mystical knowledge. Meanwhile, traditional scientists believe that the claims of thinkers are fraudulent and seek to expose them. The protagonist, Jorge Helmut, is the leader of a group of thinkers who dreams of becoming equal to scientists by creating true spaceships and mind bombs. On the other hand, young scientist Willard Farquard seeks to expose the fictitiousness of these thinkers. The story depicts the conflict between two camps and the shape of a future society, questioning the boundaries between science and magic, truth and fantasy.
