2010년 돌베개에서 출간되어 2011년 문화체육관광부 우수학술도서로 선정되고 제36회 월봉저작상을 수상한 『독도 1947: 전후 독도문제와 한ㆍ미ㆍ일 관계』의 영문판이다. 『독도 1947』은 전후 독도문제를 가장 체계적이고 종합적으로 다룬 연구서로, 그간의 독도연구를 총결산할 뿐 아니라 저자 정병준 교수가 새롭게 발굴한 영국 조약 초안 첨부 지도의 역사적·국제정치학적 의미까지 포괄적으로 다루고 있는 만큼 내용이나 분량 또한 방대하다. 새로이 출간된 영문판은 1천 쪽이 넘는 기존 도서를, 영어 독자들이 읽기 편하도록 9장에서 7장 600쪽가량으로 편집, 축약한 것이다.

저자(글) 정병준

서울대학교 국사학과를 졸업하고 동 대학원에서 석사·박사학위를 받았다. 한국현대사를 전공하고 있으며, 새로운 자료발굴과 글쓰기가 주요 관심사이다. 한국현대사의 다양한 인물과 주제에 대해 글을 썼다. 역사비평·한국민족운동사연구·역사학연구 편집위원, 역사와현실 편집위원장, 이화사학연구소장, 한국문화연구원장, 국사편찬위원회 대한민국임시정부자료집 편찬위원 등을 지냈으며, 현재 이화여자대학교 사학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 최근에는 미군정기 국대안과 남북한 학계의 재편에 관심을 갖고 있다. 대표논저로 『몽양여운형평전』, 『우남이승만연구』, 『한국전쟁』, 『독도1947』, 『현앨리스와 그의 시대』, 『샌프란시스코평화조약의 한반도 관련조항과 한국정부의 대응』 등이 있다.

Jung Byung-joon is a professor in the Department of History at Ewha Womans University. He majored in contemporary Korean history and political history. He published a number of books including Dokdo 1947 (Dolbegae, 2010); Articles Relating to Korean Peninsula in the San Francisco Peace Treaty and Korean Government’s Response To It (Korea National Diplomatic Academy, 2019); Mongyang Yeo Woonhyung Pyongjeon (Critical Biography of Woon-hyung Lyuh) (Han-ul, 1995); Unam Yi Seungman Yongu (Research on Syngman Rhee) (Yeoksabipyong, 2005); Hangook Jeonjaeng (Korean War) (Dolbegae, 2006); and Alice Hyun and Her Time (Dolbegae, 2015). He has been awarded the 47th Korean Publishing Culture Award in 2007, the 56th Korean Publishing Culture Award in 2016, and the 36th Wolbong Book Award in 2011.
