The objective of the Council for Asian Musicology shall be the advancement of research and study in the field of Asian music, for which purpose, all interested persons, regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin, are encouraged to become members. Its aims include serving the membership and council at large through the dissemination of knowledge concerning the music of the world’s people.
Asian Musicology is a refereed journal published once a year by the Council for Asian Musicology. The journal publishes original articles in the field of Asian music, broadly defined. Translations of previously published articles are generally not considered.
Asian Musicology welcomes articles on all aspects of the performing arts of Asia. Manuscripts should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style and be submitted to one of the co-editors by September 15 each year for consideration of next year’s publication. Contributors of essays will receive five free copies of the volume in which their essays appear. Contributors need not be members of the Council.
Asian Musicology functions as a vehicle for the exchange of ideas, news, and information. Inquiries pertaining to advertising in the journal should be directed to the editor of the journal.

From the Editor

Although musical traditions and music scholarships have flourished in Asia since ancient times, modern music research in Asia has been mostly carried out independently by musicologists within cultural, political and geographical boundaries, and usually delineated by written languages. As the only English-language journal on Asian music published in East Asia, Asian Musicology has made great contributions in promoting Asian music scholarship, spreading knowledge of Asian music, and networking Asian music scholars around the world since Professor Chun In-pyong founded the journal and the Council for Asian Musicology in the beginning of this century. During the Council’s meeting in Ningbo University of China on March 30th 2015, Professor Chun In-pyong, Dr. So Inhwa, Dr. Alan Thrasher and I decided to make international joint efforts in co-publishing this journal in both Korea and China. I am honored to co-chair the Council for Asian Musicology and co-edit the journal of Asian Musicology with Professor Chun In-pyong and Dr. So Inhwa starting from 2015. During this meeting, the Council for Asian Musicology has also decided to improve the quality of the journal by changing the publication cycle from twice a year to once a year and implementing a full peer review process into the editorial cycle ？ for the first time in the history of the journal. The prolonged publication period for Vol. 26 is due to this peer review process.
