국문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the vocabulary differences between American English and British English. It focuses on variations in pronunciation, spelling, and word usage. The research uses regional dialects in both countries as a theoretical background. By comparing linguistic features, the study aims to highlight how vocabulary reflects cultural and regional diversity within the English language. First, the concepts of American English and British English were examined, as well as the concepts of the dialects used in each country. In addition, to clarify the boundaries of the differences between the forms of English used in the two countries, this paper analyses the differences in English vocabulary used in each country. For this analysis, various examples of English vocabulary were used to analyse how the pronunciation of the same English vocabulary differs between the two countries, how the spelling is used, and finally, how the usage and meaning of the same vocabulary differs in each country. Thus, this study is significant in that it delineates the conceptual boundaries between American and British English, including the regional dialects within each, and offers a systematic analysis of the differences in pronunciation, spelling, and lexical usage between the two varieties.
