The Effect of an 8-Week Summer Training Program on Basic and Specific Physical Fitness of Male Middle School Tennis Players: Pilot Study

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of an 8-week summer training program on basic and specific physical fitness.
METHODS The study was conducted on 12 male middle school tennis players, measuring basic and specific physical fitness before and after the summer training program. The program included a combination of functional training, resistance training, and tennis-specific training.
RESULTS Significant differences were observed in both basic and specific physical fitness after the 8-week summer training program compared to before. In basic fitness, significant improvements were found in grip strength, back strength, repeated jumps, standing long jump, total body response, agility, balance, and visual perceptual response. In specialized fitness, anaerobic power showed statistically significant increases in maximum power, maximum power per body weight, average power, and power drop. Isokinetic shoulder joint strength at angular velocities of 60°/sec and 180°/sec showed statistically significant increases in both the extensor and flexor muscles.
CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that the 8-week summer training program had a positive effect on the basic and specific physical fitness of male middle school tennis players. Future research should focus on the need for comparative studies and related research based on this study to further explore summer training programs for tennis players aimed at improving athletic performance.
