전공 연계 교양필수 영어 수업 만족 요인 학습자 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 서울 소재 대학 교양필수 영어 프로그램 개편을 위해 개발된 새로운 커리큘럼의 교양영어 수업-말하기와 쓰기 활동 위주로 구성된 전공 연계 콘텐츠 중심 교양 영어 (Career Track English)-파일럿 프로그램을 15주간 수강한 대학생(이하 연구참여자)들의 수업 만족도 요인 관련 학습자 인식을 고찰한 연구이다. 학습자 만족도에 영향을 주는 요인은 아래 6가지 영역인 (1) 수업 운영 및 시스템 요인 (2) 수업 내용 및 콘텐츠 요인, (3) 전체 프로그램의 방향성 요인 (4) 교수자의 전문성 요인 (5) 교수자의 태도 (친절도) 요인 (6) 교수자의 상호작용 요인으로 구성되었다. 본 연구는 교양 필수 영어 수강생들의 만족도를 높이기 위해 영향을 주는 만족도 요인이 무엇인지 살펴 과거 교양 필수의 주된 흐름인 언어 4기능 중심의 수업(e.g., 말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기)에서 벗어나, 본 프로그램이 추구하는 콘텐츠 중심의 전공연계 교양필수 영어 수업으로의 개편 방향이 옳은지 학습자 중심에서 살펴보고자 하는 것이 그 목적이다. 즉 단순 언어 기능 중심의 수업이 아닌 콘텐츠와 내용을 어떻게 구성할 것인지에 대한 함의와 방향성을 탐구하고자 고안된 연구이다. 이를 통해 콘텐츠 중심의 전공 연계 내용을 결합한 언어기능과 활용 중심의 수업으로 교양 필수 영어 수업을 구성했을 때 학습자 만족도는 어떠한지 고찰하여 교양필수 영어교육이 나아갈 방향성에 대한 함의를 제공한다. 본 연구의 의의는 미래를 대비할 교양 영어교육이 수요자 중심인 학습자 만족도 요인을 중심으로 개편되어야 하며 전공 영역과 연계되어 변화, 개발되는 것에 대한 지속적 만족도와 수요는 어떠한지에 대한 추후 연구과제를 제시해 준다.

영문 초록

This study examined the factors affecting college students’ satisfaction (hereinafter participants) with regards to who took a major-related content-based required general English education program for 15 weeks at a university in Seoul. This course mainly consisted of speaking and writing activities among the four functions of language. Factors that affect participants’ satisfaction include the following six domains: (1) class operation and system, (2) teaching content, (3) overall program direction, (4) instructors’ expertise, and (5) instructors’ attitude (friendliness), and (6) instructors’ interaction with learners. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that have the most influence on the satisfaction degree of learners for the future, rather than to focus on teaching the four language skills (e.g., peaking, listening, reading, and writing), which were the main stream of general English education in the past. The purpose is to explore the implications and direction of how to design the content and to provide implications for the direction of general English education by examining thelevel of learner satisfaction. This study implies that the general English education should prepare for the future and focus on reflecting learners’ satisfaction factors, while suggesting further research regarding what factors incoprorated with major areas will help learners develop language abilities.
