국문 초록
This study explores a cross-culture (CC) model to promote EFL learners’ media literacy and CC knowledge. The model converged flipped learning and student-directed learning. Before the class, the participants (n = 33) read the excerpt from the original story of Shakespeare’s King Lear and appreciated its adapted movies, the 2018 King Lear, and Ran. With the background knowledge of the story flow, they were involved in role-play and group discussion with the specific topics. As they experienced the process of input-notice-practice-output, they accumulated verbal, non-verbal, and cultural knowledge. The learners showed linguistic development and thinking activation. A post-survey on learners’ satisfaction with the CC literacy model was composed of learning pleasure (n = 5) and the three qualities: (a) personal and psychological (n = 5), (b) creative (n = 3), and (c) cognitive quality(n = 4). They listened to others with openness to a different culture (90.9%) and participated in various activities with improved motivation. The learners expressed that learning planning is critical in enhancing student-centered participation without prejudice. Accordingly, this study may contribute to the design of a media-literacy-based CC model.
