내용 중심 교수법을 활용한 대학 내 외국인 전용 수업 운영 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 국내 대학의 ‘외국인 전용’ 교과목에 ‘내용 중심 교수법’을 적용하여 유학생의 ‘교과 내용 이해’와 ‘한국어 능력 향상’을 도모하는 방안을 제시하고, 이를 검증하는 것이다. 국내 대학들은 학령 인구 감소로 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 외국인 유학생 유치는 이를 해결하는 방안 중 하나이다. 하지만, 한국어 능력이 부족한 유학생의 증가는 강의실에서 교수와 학습자 모두에게 어려움을 야기한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 ‘외국인 전용’ 교과목에 ‘내용 중심 교수법’ 중 ‘내용 보호 모형’을 적용할것을 제안한다. 본고는 2023학년도 2학기와 2024학년도 1학기에 개설된 ‘외국인 전용’ 강의에 ‘내용 보호 모형’을 적용한 수업을 진행하였다. 수업의 효과성 분석 결과, ‘외국인 전용’ 강의를 수강하는 유학생들에게 ‘내용 중심 교수법’의 ‘내용 보호 모형’이 큰 효과를 보일 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 외국인 유학생들의 원활한 교과 내용 이해를 위하여 적절한 수준의 추가 자료를 제공하는 것은 그 자체로도 ‘한국어 능력’을 향상시키는 효과를 보이며, 더 나아가 학습자들을 해당 교과목에 더욱 ‘몰입’하게 하고, 이는 다시 학습자의 한국어 능력 향상에긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to propose and verify measures to enhance the understanding of course content and improve Korean language proficiency among international students by applying Content-Based Instruction (CBI) to ‘foreigner-only’ courses in Korean universities. Korean universities are facing challenges due to a declining student population, and attracting international students is one of the solutions to this problem. How ever, the increasing number of international students with insufficient Korean lan guage proficiency poses difficulties for both teachers and learners in the classroom. To address this issue, This study proposes the application of the ‘Content Protection Model’, a sub-mod el of CBI, to ‘foreigner-only’ courses. This study implemented a ‘Content Protection Model’ in ‘foreigner-only’ courses offered in the second semester of 2023 and the first semester of 2024. The effectiveness of the instruction was analyzed through a questionnaire survey, which revealed that the ‘Content Protection Model’ of CBI can have a significant impact on international students taking ‘foreigner-only’ courses. Providing appropriate additional materials at a suitable level for international students to understand the course content effectively enhances their Korean lan guage proficiency. Furthermore, helping learners understand the course content leads to greater immersion in the subject matter, which in turn further enhances their Korean language proficiency.
