In the 2000s, the typical characteristics of a low-growth period began to emerge, with companies hiring fewer new employees than the number of highly educated people. As a result, many university students and college graduates have found it difficult to find employment and have chosen to start their own businesses instead (Yang, Jun-sik, 2016). The government's support policies and social interest in youth entrepreneurship are increasing year by year, and in recent years, universities have been encouraged to integrate and operate entrepreneurship organizations, and many universities have integrated entrepreneurship organizations such as entrepreneurship incubation centers and entrepreneurship education centers to operate a single organization, the 'Entrepreneurship Support Group'.
Recently, the post-COVID-19 era has seen a revitalization in the startup market. According to the statistics on the status of franchise businesses released by the Fair Trade Commission in 2022, the total number of franchisees increased significantly by 24.0% year-on-year. In particular, the coffee industry experienced an explosion in popularity with a 30.0% increase in the number of franchisees.
The coffee industry has expanded and developed since the early 2000s, and the demand for people with specialized knowledge and skills in this field has led to the establishment of coffee barista departments and food entrepreneurship departments at various universities, as well as various coffee education programs and entrepreneurship education. Therefore, the goal of this study is to investigate the effects of coffee education services provided by a domestic university's entrepreneurship support group and a vocational college's food service entrepreneurship department on the desire to start a cafe. In addition, we investigate whether the effect of coffee education services on prospective entrepreneurs' desire to start a cafe is mediated by opportunity exploration and examine the effect of policy support on education services and desire to start a cafe, to find out how external environmental factors affect the entrepreneurship process.
The results of the study confirm that coffee education services have a positive impact on entrepreneurial achievement desire and entrepreneurial opportunity search, suggesting that improving the quality of café entrepreneurship education programs and creating an appropriate educational environment play an important role in increasing entrepreneurial motivation.
The implication of this study is that exploring entrepreneurial opportunities has a mediating effect on entrepreneurial achievement desire, suggesting that providing students with opportunities to explore café entrepreneurship opportunities and emphasizing them in coffee education programs can increase entrepreneurial motivation.
