영문 초록

He number of the children of migrant workers who are at school age has continuously increased up to 836 and that of intermarried migrants also reportedly has amounted to 7998 as of April 1, 2006. According to the 2003 annual report of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), 28.7% of the children in the survey were not attending school. Based upon this report, we can infer that a substantial number of the children and adolescents are not receiving their educational benefits. However this has not been resolved to satisfaction yet. The challenge that these children are facing is their lack of Korean language proficiency. In this study, improving and designing a course through feedbacks from the field was considered as a major procedure. An effective and efficient teaching model for children has been developed and verified. This study has been conducted among the students of the Mongol School in Korea to develop a teaching model with concreteness and practicality. Teaching Korean for the children of migrants is one area of teaching Korean for Specific Purposes (KSP). It is desirable that the course should meet the learners' need of Korean language competence and the language use ability which can enhance their cognitive development. In addition, the course needs to facilitate the students' competency in written language and the competency in spoken language which is necessary to deliver the successful learning activities in school. This case study has investigated a course design to solve these issues and presented actual implementation of the developed course.
