영문 초록

Under standard phase theory (Chomsky 2000, 2001), it has been generally considered that two functional heads, CP and v*P are phases. Numerous studies attempt to analyze languages with this assumption (Chomsky 2008, 2013, 2015, among many others). However, some researchers cast doubt on the presence of v(*)P phases (Takemura 2012, Hasegawa 2014, Keine 2016, 2017, 2020, Grano and Lasnik 2018, among others). In this way, it is still under debate in the literature whether v(*)P is a phase or not. In order to further develop research on phase theory, it is indispensable to clarify the status of v(*)P in light of phas es . This paper aims to strengthen the idea that v(*)P is not a phase in English from numerous viewpoints and present the consequences of this analysis. Furthermore, other languages are considered in comparison with English.
