18세기 조선산학 문헌에 나타난 자연수 곱셈의 교육적 의미 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 18세기 조선산학 문헌의 곱셈계산법의 특징과 역사적 발달 과정을 살펴보고, 학교수학의 자연수 곱셈 지도와 연결하여 조선산학 곱셈의 교육적 의미를 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 <구수략>, <고사신서>, <서계쇄록> 등 총 9종의 산학 문헌을 선정하였으며, 학교수학의 자연수 곱셈 지도에 관한 주요 쟁점을 중심으로 조선산학의 곱셈계산법의 특징을 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 조선산학의 자연수 곱셈의 교육적 의미를 다음과 같이 도출하였다. 먼저 조선산학의 곱셈은 선수학습 요소나 곱셈계산법의 제시 순서 등 지도 계열 측면에서 대체적으로 위계적으로 조직되어 있었으며, 18세기 동안 산대 조작의 전통적 곱셈계산법으로부터 지필 형식의 서양식 곱셈계산법으로 이행하는 수학적 진보가 확인되었다. 또한 조선산학의 곱셈은 알고리즘적 접근이 상당히 강했지만, 기수법적 구조에 기반한 자릿값 개념과 교환법칙, 결합법칙, 분배법칙 등의 곱셈의 연산 성질이 곱셈 계산 원리에 내재되어 작동하고 있었다. 또한 산학 문헌이 다루는 곱셈 상황은 다양성 측면에서는 미흡했지만, 모든 곱셈 문항이 실생활 및 타 분야 맥락과 연결된다는 특징이 있었다. 이에 가장 비중이 높았던 비율 상황 문항과 실생활 맥락의 곱셈 문항을 수학과 실생활 지식을 연결‧융합하는 경험을 조직하는데 활용할 것을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the historical developments and didactical significance of the algorithms for multiplication of natural numbers of Chosun-Sanhak in the 18th century. Nine Chosun mathematics books of the 18th century including Gusuryak and Gosasynseo were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, the algorithms for multiplication of natural numbers of Chosun-Sanhak in the 18th century was organized hierarchically and made progress from traditional algorithms for multiplication with Sandae to the new calculation with figures written down on paper. Second, the concept of place values based on positional numeral system and the properties of operations in multiplication(i.e. commutative property of multiplication, associative property of multiplication, distributive property of multiplication over addition) underlay the principles of the multiplication of Chosun-Sanhak. Lastly, there were little diversity of the multiplication situations but abundant real-life contexts of multiplication item, The latter may contribute to student`s experience of the connection of mathematics and real-life knowledge.
