조선후기 귀신 이야기와 그림의 실현 양상 및 특징

국문 초록

목적 : 본고는 조선 후기 귀신을 다룬 문학과 그림의 특징 및 존재 의의를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법 : 대상의 특징을 파악하기 위해 조선 시대 관련 이데올로기의 흐름을 파악한 후, 예술 작품의 양상을 비교해서 살펴보았다. 결과 : 그 결과 조선 전기에는 신유학을 중심으로 무속의 귀신관을 억압했으나, 중기 이후 상황이 바뀐 것에 주목했다. 야담 및 <천예록>과 같은 대표 작품집에서 적극적으로 신이담을 다룰 뿐만 아니라, 그림 역시 상황이 달라졌다. 이어서 관련 작품의 실상을 살펴본 결과, 우선 다양성의 측면에서 공통점을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉 <천예록>은 신이한 이야기를 가감 없이 수록했고, 그림 역시 시왕도와 감로도를 비롯한 각종 도상에서 신, 령, 괴의 층위를 두루 갖추고 있었다. 그리고 구성을 보면, 이야기는 정형화를 탈피하여 귀신의 온갖 내력을 수용하고자 했으며, 도상은 이미지의 근거를 파악하기 위해 시각적 읽기의 과정이 수반되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 결론 : 조선 후기 귀신 이야기와 그림은 적층 문화가 집약된 결과물로 삶과 죽음을 둘러싼 인간사의 궁금증과 상상력을 피력한 기이의 미학을 수립했다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to search for the features of ghost story and picture in late Joseon Dynasty. Methods : In order to accomplish this purpose this paper compare two genres after the looking into ideology. Conclusion : Korean have shared Chinese customs relating to ghost, but the situation was changed and the literati group started to enjoy the legends in CheonYeoRok that is the compilation of ghost story. And there were multiple types ghost icons including Ten-kings picture or Sweet dew picture. These different genre commonly showed the various version. And the story reveal all kinds of lineage of ghost without the fixed pattern in composition. And the pictures demand meticulous visual reading to understand the reason for being of ghost. Result : As a result, the ghost story and picture revealed the meaning of aesthetics of grotesque that express the curiosity and imagination about living and death as the integration of popular culture.
