The purpose of this paper is to analyze Hunger as a hunger and Hunger as a desire of dystopian society in Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games. The paper also tries to give students positive views of the future through a dystopian society. The first is Hunger as hunger. Hunger represents poverty, and it is well illustrated in the environment of District 12 where a protagonist, Katniss grows up. Katniss matures physically and mentally in the natural environment and became a female warrior to counteract Capitol. Hunger, On the other hand, is major fact that positively and negatively affects the formation of internal morality in Katniss growth process. The second is Hunger as a desire. The Capitol government wants to maintain a dictatorship. One of the issues in this paper is to look deeper into Dystopian society to analyze how Katniss deals with the Capitol’s desires by Hunger games. Collins accuses the subject of hunger and morality, which frequently appears in children’s and adolescent literature, through Dystopian society of the Capitol. Katniss’ hunger, Capitol’s desire, and the image of a young protagonist who conflicts between rebellion and conformity to overcome the challenges that Dystopian society reveals would inspire the readers. Therefore, using the textbook in the university’s children’s literature class will help students develop their insights through in-depth work discussions as well as English reading.
