과학경진대회 참가 학생 학부모의 경험에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 자녀가 과학경진대회에 참가한 경험이 있는 학부모 4명을 대상으로 자녀의 대회 참가 과정에서 학부모로서 어떤 경험을 하였는지를 질적으로 살펴보기 위해 2019년 3월부터 5월까지 3개월간 심층면담을 실시하였다. 학부모들에게 자녀의 과학경진대회 참가는 부모로서는 만들어주기가 어려운 다양한 교육 경험을 자녀들이 할 수 있는 만족스러운 시간이었고, 이러한 만족감은 자녀의 모든 일상이 대회 준비를 중심으로 돌아가는 것을 참고 지켜보게 하는 요인이 되었다. 그리고 대회 참가 경험으로 인해 다른 대회 출전 기회를 얻거나 지도교사와의 멘토 관계 형성, 과학 관련 진로에 대한 인식을 갖게 되는 등 대회가 끝난 후에도 대회의 여운이 지속되기도 하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 자녀의 과학경진대회 참가가 연구 참여자들에게 주는 의미를 고찰하였고, 학교교육 전반에 대한 학부모의 신뢰와 협조 증진 방안을 시사점으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Using in-depth interviews for four elementary school or middle school parents, this study explored parents’ experiences during their children participating in the national scientific contest. The results showed that parents’ children had an educational experiences that was difficult for them to acquire during the national scientific contest preparation period, which led them to take a wait-and-see approach as their entire daily lives revolve around competition preparation. After the contest, there was a chance to participate in other contests or to form a mentor relationship with a instructor and form a perception of science-related career paths because of the experiences in participating in the national scientific contest. Parents emphasized that their children’s participation in national scientific contest was the time as enlightenment including their children’s growth, the value of the process of education, and the possibility of school education. Suggestions and implication of promotion parents’ trust and cooperation in school education are also discussed.
