국문 초록

본 연구에서는 과학과 통합 교육의 한 가지 방안으로 STS 교육을 소개하고, STS의 의미 및 STS 교육의 등장 배경 등에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 학교 밖 과학교육이 실시될 수 있는 대표적인 기관으로 과학관을 소개하고, 과학관을 통한 비정규 과학학습의 유용성에 대해 알아보았으며, 특히 해외 과학관에서 현대 과학교육의 목표에 부합하기 위해 실시하고 있는 STS 교육 사례를 소개하였다. 세계 유수의 과학관들은 최근 들어 과학관 교육프로그램에 생명공학, 의료, 나노 기술 등의 최신 과학 기술 연구와 그 사회적․윤리적 측면에 대한 내용을 포함시키기 위한 노력들을 하고 있으며, 그 방법도 전시, 강연, 연극, 영화 상영 등 다양하다. 또한 과학관에서의 STS 교육이 학교 교육과 연계할 수 있도록 교사를 위한 다양한 안내도 제시하고 있다. 우리나라의 과학관들은 STS 교육에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있는 다양한 해외 과학관의 사례 및 학교 교육과 연계한 다양한 사례를 발굴하고 이를 벤치마킹하여 우리나라에 적합한 STS 소재 및 관람객들의 흥미 수준에 맞는 교육 방법을 개발하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study introduced STS education as one of the methods to do a science integrated education and examined the meaning of STS and backgrounds of its appearance in science education. And also, researcher recommended the science museum as a typical facilities supporting students\ out-of-school science education, examined the value of informal learning in science museum, and presented the examples of integrated science education in international science museum through STS education to fulfill the modern goals of science education. Recently internationally well-known science museums are trying to implicate new science research, such as biotechnology, medical treatment and nanotechnology, and the social․ethical aspects of science in their education programs. And the methods to educate the people in science museum are not only exhibition but also lecture, play, movie and so on. There are various information for school teachers to incorporate the STS education in science museum with formal education in school. The science museums in Korea should try to find and benchmark various examples of STS education in the international science museum and models to incorporate science museum with formal education, and try to develop STS themes and educational methods to meet the various interests of Korean.
