영문 초록

Pressures to pursue social sustainability are being placed on corporate management in any countries. Green management as environmental corporate social responsibility is asked to most firms in the world to effectively respond to the threat of climate change. Green management represents various kinds of corporate efforts to reduce the carbon emission amount. This paper reviewed the theoretical backgrounds for green management and analyzed the green managements of a Korean company and a Japanese company in steel industry; POSCO and NSSMC (Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corp). These two companies are leader in steel industry in each country. I tried to show what kinds of efforts are performed in these two companies to reduce the carbon emission and compare the similarities and differences between two firms. Green management of POSCO consists of energy efficiency, GHG reduction in society, green business and green partnership and green management of NSSMC includes eco process, eco products and eco sharing. I interpreted that the similarities between two firms can be explained in terms of institutional isomorphism and that the differences can be found if one company has more proactive attitude toward green management than the other. It is also found that the motives of green management and the outcome from it are not sufficiently addressed in the carbon reports of both companies. Especially, the impact of green management on the corporate management and performance should be examined.
