This paper is dedicated to the re-reading of Aleksandr Blok’s last drama, the Rose and the Cross from the culturo-poetical point of view. As we know, Blok is one of the most famous poets in the Symbolism of the Russian literary history. Along with the other symbolists as Vjacheslav Ivanov, Andrej Belyj, Blok also chased for the ultimate redemption from the misery and ugly world where the ordinary life goes on, because the essence of truth could not be represented with this kind of lowly life. The mytho-poetical literary projects of the second symbolistic generation was made up from the belief in “Prekrasnaja dama” who would relieve the poor intelligentija like them. As time passes, this ideal was gradually run out, Blok and the others did not believe in the Goddess of redemption, or the power of the Symbol in literary Idea. But Blok tried to find some kind of the other breakthrough as a literary way. The drama as genre was his assertive choice for this aim. The Rose and the Cross (1912) was his last drama work, in which the dramaturge experiment his concept as the Lyrical against the Madness (Stikhija) for enduring the mastering of the Fate. We will inquire into this problematic through the “downward-synthesis.” That’s why we have to investigate Blok’s literary way in this moment.
