국문 초록

원수산 산신제를 위한 산제계(山祭契)는 조선후기에 결성되었다. 이런 점에서 원수산의 동제는 오랜 역사성을 지닌다. 곧 조선후기에서 오늘에 이르는 동제의 전통이 산제계 문서를 통하여 전해 내려오고 있다. 아울러 이 문서에는 오랜 세월에 걸친 산신제의 지속과 변화에 관한 단서가 담겨있기도 하다. 산신제의 목적은 지극히 명료하다. 문서에 따르면 우순풍조(雨順風調)와 시화연풍(時和年豊)을 꼽고 있다. 순한 비바람을 통하여 풍년이 들기를 소망하는 것이다. 이는 이 고장의 산신제가 농경을 주업으로 삼는 사람들에 의해서 수행되어 왔음을 나타내는 것이고 할 수 있다. 물론 제의 목적은 시대나 상황에 거기에 맞게 변하기도 하지만 우순풍조 시화연풍은 예로부터 오늘날에 이르기까지 지속되어 왔음을 볼 수 있다. 원수산 산신제의 유지는 산제계가 존속됨으로 해서 가능하였다. 원수산을 둘러싸고 있는 각 마을에서 계를 조직하여 운영함으로써 경제적인 비용 문제를 해결할 수 있었다. 이와 함께 원수산 산제계가 성립되고 지속되었던 배경에는 양화리 일대가 부안임씨 종족마을이라는 혈연ㆍ지연적인 요소도 크게 작용하였다. 원수산 산신제는 조선후기 반촌에서 거행되었던 산신제의 전통이 20세기 이후 부단한 변화과정을 겪으면서 전승되고 있는 흔치 않은 사례이다. <산제홀기(山祭笏記)>에 세세하게 기록된 바와 같이 그것은 조선시대의 엄격한 유교식 산신제의 관행을 계승한 것이다. 그런 가운데 일제 말기, 특히 해방 이후 반촌의 권위가 붕괴되면서 홀기에 의거한 제례의식이 상당부분 축소되었다. 이 무렵부터 산신제는 점진적으로 쇠퇴하다가 1980년대 이후 더욱 급격하게 쇠약해졌다. 이때 양화리 주민 임장철씨가 중심이 되어 산신제를 복원하려 하였다. 그는 원수산에 제당을 차려놓고 백일기도를 하였다. 또한 매년 같은 시기에 산신제를 지내며 마을의 평안과 농사의 풍년을 기원하고 있다.

영문 초록

The rite for mountain god in Wonsusan was organized by the association of mountain rite (山祭契). The purpose of rite is to pray for “mild rains and good winds(雨順風調)” and “peaceful nation and good harvest(時和年豊)”. The rite for a mountain god could survive due to the existence of the association of mountain rite. Each village surrounding mountain Wonsu organized an association to support the expenses required for rituals. The characteristics of villages tied with kinship strongly affected the establishment and succession of the rite for a mountain god: Buan, Lim family occupied Yanghwa-ri area closely connected with blood and region. The rite of for a mountain god at Wonsu Mountain is a rare case of the rituals which survived many historic changes of the twenties century and continued its existence originally derived from the village ritual of the late Chosun dynasty. As illustrated in the Book of Mountain Ritein details, this succeeded the rigorous tradition of Confucius rite. With the disintegration of a village structure from the late colonial period to the liberation period, many rituals and ceremonies based on the Book of Mountain Ritecame to be minimized. Since then and especially after 1980’s, the rite for a mountain god got deteriorated. Lim Jangcheol and other residents of Yanghwari made efforts to revive the rite for a mountain god. He prayed for one hundred days at the Wonsusan shrine. Moreover, they serve the rite four a mountain god at the same period every year and pray for peace of village and good harvest.
