국문 초록

본 연구는 기혼여성자의 어머니노릇(mothering) 변형 과정을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 기혼여성의 소득활동을 통해 아동관, 양육자-피양육자 관계에 대한 생각이 변화하는 것을 살펴본 후, 총체적으로 어머니노릇이 변형되는 과정을 탐구하였다. 어머니의 소득활동은 자녀의 예상을 벗어난 행동을 통해 어머니의 아동관을 흔들며, 자녀의 이해와 동일시될 수 없는 분화된 자아의식을 구체적으로 뒷받침하고 있는 것으로 드러났다. 어머니의 소득활동은 무능력한 보호의 대상으로 아동을 바라보는 인식에 변화를 가져오고, '나'를 잃지 않는 어머니로 존재하도록 만드는 조건으로 작동한다.

영문 초록

This study explores transformation of concept of "mothering" by married women's participation in money-making activities. This study focuses on how married women's view on children including the mother-child relationship has come to change through their participation in money-making activites, and how those changes transform the overall mothering process. Mothers' money-making activites cause unexpected change in the pattern of children's behavior, transforming mothers' conception of their children. The money-making activities also help boost mothers' self-consciouness, which lies in sharp contrast to children's interests. In conclusin, mothers' money-making activities serve as a major condition for mothers to exist as the subject "I" against the social norm. They also bring huge change to mothers' conventional views on children: children are not dependent beings that should be always protected by mothers.
