영문 초록

Traditionally, English reading classes at the university level have been taught through Grammar-translation method in Korean. This study attempted to integrate TETE into a college English reading class and made sure that the class was to be communication-oriented using the interactive learning activities from students' presentations to negotiation of meaning session (NMS). Forty five students were asked to take TOEIC during the semester and answer the questionnaire at the end of the semester. The results showed that students generally had positive attitudes toward the TETE class, but in order to guarantee a successful TETE reading class at the university level, students' 800-900 points in TOEIC were found to be a necessary condition. In addition, students who have acquired 500-700 TOEIC scores were found to prefer the students-led class to the professor-led. lecture type class. On the contrary, those with the score of 800-900 favored the professor-led class to students-led class. The results are expected to provide those who teach English reading class in universities with practical information upon how we go about planning and managing a communicative TETE class.
