We examine the influence of electron beam parameters on FEL performance for the proposed FEL amplifier test experiment (FATE) project by using the numerical simulation code GINGER. Achievable values for the normalized emittance and the peak current as well as the availability of study is centered at an optical wavelength range of 1 to 3 ㎛ using a 6 to 8 m-long-wiggler with a 2.5 to 3.6 cm period length. Simulations indicate that the clean-up of the lonitudinal optical beam profile into a single superradiant pulse and the transition of the FEL process into the exponential gain region occur even in cases of very small output power levels. The development of superradiant spikes appears to be typical for the Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) process, which makes the FATE project an excellent test experiment for the Linear Coherent Light Source (LCLS) project. In this work, simulation results starting from noise are presented, and the output powers of a single superradiant pulse are calculated for the radiation wavelength, current, bunch length, wiggler period, energy spread, and beta function dependences. We also examine the influence of wiggler magnetization errors and steering errors.
