국문 초록

본 연구는 인공지능 번역 도구 확산에 따라 요구되는 기계번역 후편집(Machine Translation Post-Editing, MTPE) 역량을 제도적으로 검증하기 위해 민간자격 GATES(Global AI Translation Editing Specialist)의 설계와 이론적 타당성을 고찰한다. 이를 위해 번역학 이론, MQM 기반 품질 평가, 기계번역 기술의 발전, NCS 직무 역량을 검토하여 자격 체계의 근거를 마련하였다. GATES는 3급-2급-1급의 단계적 구조와 Light PE·Full PE 실습, MQM 기반 평가를 통해 학습자의 점진적 성장을 지원하며, 교육·산업·평생학습 현장에서 활용 가능성이 확인되었다. 이는 MTPE가 특정 번역가 집단에 국한되지 않고 전 산업 분야에서 요구되는 보편적 언어 역량임을 보여주며, GATES 자격이 AI 시대의 핵심 언어 자격으로 발전할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study examines the design and validity of GATES (Global AI Translation Editing Specialist), a private certification program intended to assess machine translation post-editing (MTPE) competence in the AI era, and explores its potential as a cross-sector language qualification. Methods: The study analyzes the foundations of GATES based on translation theories, developments in machine translation technology, the Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) framework, and alignment with the National Competency Standards (NCS). Contents: GATES is organized into three progressive levels and employs MQM-based evaluation criteria to ensure objectivity and reliability. The certification integrates theoretical knowledge of AI translation with practical post-editing performance. Conclusion and Suggestions: The results indicate that GATES can be applied in higher education, corporate training, and lifelong learning contexts, suggesting that MTPE is an essential language competency beyond professional translation. The study concludes that GATES has potential as a key AI-era language qualification and recommends further empirical validation in diverse educational and industrial settings.
