국문 초록

본 연구는 대학의 교수자가 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 한 첫 수업에서 겪은 난제와 극복 과정을 심층적으로 탐색하고, 성찰적 실천을 통해 교수 역량이 어떻게 재구성되는지를 서술하는 데 목적을 둔 셀프 내러티브이다. 연구자는 2025학년도 1학기에 중국인 유학생 20명을 대상으로 강의한 자신의 수업 경험을 셀프 내러티브 방법으로 탐구하였다. 연구 결과는 ① 소통 난관과 극복 노력, ② 상호작용을 위한 교수 전략 탐색, ③ 교수 실패 경험, ④ 관계 전환: 경계심에서 친밀감으로 라는 네 가지 주제로 분석되었다. 분석 결과, 교수자는 소통의 어려움으로 인한 스트레스를 새로운 환경에 대한 적응과 성장의 동력으로 활용하였다. 이 과정에서 교수자는 기존 교수 방식을 성찰하고 비언어적 단서를 활용, 문화적 차이를 고려한 교수 전략을 실천함으로써 학생들과의 소통 능력을 향상시켰다. 이러한 ‘스트레스-적응-성장’의 순환은 외국인 유학생의 수업 및 문화 적응에 초점을 맞추었던 기존 연구의 한계를 넘어, 교수자 역시 능동적인 적응 주체임을 보여준다. 본 연구는 외국인 유학생 대상의 대학 교육환경에서 교수자가 겪는 미시적 경험을 통해 성찰적 실천의 중요성을 부각하며, 외국인 유학생을 지도하는 다른 교수자들에게 실천적 통찰과 공감의 기회가 제공되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This self-narrative explores the challenges and overcoming processes faced by university professors in their first class with Chinese international students, and how their teaching abilities are redefined through reflective practice. The researcher explored his teaching experience of 20 Chinese international students in the first semester of 2025 through a self-narrative method. The study's findings were analyzed across four key themes: ① communication challenges and overcoming obstacles, ② exploring teaching strategies for effective interaction, ③ the experience of teaching failure, and ④ shifting from a guarded to a more intimate relationship. The analysis revealed that the instructor leveraged the stress caused by communication difficulties as a driving force for adapting to and growing in the new environment. Through this process, the instructor enhanced their ability to communicate with students by reflecting on traditional teaching methods, leveraging non-verbal cues, and implementing culturally sensitive teaching strategies. This "stress-adaptation-growth" cycle goes beyond the limitations of previous research, which focused on the academic and cultural adaptation of international students, to demonstrate that professors themselves are active agents of adaptation. This study highlights the significance of reflective practice through the micro-experiences of professors in the university education environment for international students, and aims to provide other professors guiding international students with practical insights and opportunities for empathy.
