국문 초록

This study examines Thai secondary school learners’ perceptions of admission to Korean universities and preparation for study in Korea, focusing on the transition gap between school-based Korean language education and concrete preparation. An online survey included 430 Grade 11 and 12 Korean language learners from 12 secondary schools across Thailand. Analysis used descriptive statistics, Mann–Whitney U tests, Spearman rank correlations, cross-tabulations, and qualitative coding. Learners viewed Korean-related activities as beneficial for learning motivation and preparation for admission to Thai universities. However, 22.3% expressed high interest in admission to Korean universities, and many remained uncertain about preparation methods despite recognizing the importance of TOPIK scores and academic competence. Thirty-eight of 49 learners (77.6%) who selected study in Korea or admission to a Korean university as a learning purpose and 69 of 96 learners (71.9%) with high admission interest reported such uncertainty. Korean language teachers played a central counseling role, whereas institutional information and support channels were less frequently used. The findings reveal unclear linkages between activity-oriented school experiences, language and academic preparation for admission, and external support channels. This study interprets the transition gap as an educational linkage problem rather than a lack of individual interest or preparedness.
