인공지능 시대 고전여성문학 연구의 방향과 사회적 실천

국문 초록

본고는 생성형 인공지능과 디지털 기술 환경이 고전여성문학 연구의 수행 조건과 사회적 실천 방식에 어떠한 변화를 가져올 수 있는지를 탐색한 것이다. 인공지능이 인문학 연구를 대체하는가 그렇지 못하는가의 이분법적 구도를 넘어, 인공지능과 디지털 환경을 지식 생산과 확산을 매개하는 미디어적 관점에서 접근하였다. 연구의 수행 조건 변화와 관련하여 세 가지 측면을 논의하였다. 첫째, 인공지능 기반 문자 인식 기술과 디지털 아카이브가 고문헌에 대한 접근성을 확대하고, 연구자가 제기할 수 있는 질문과 방법론의 범위를 재구성하는 방식을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 정량 분석 기법과 생성형 인공지능과의 대화적 탐색이 문학 분석의 지평을 어떻게 확대하는지를 검토하였다. 셋째, 역사적 언어 환경을 재현하는 인공지능 모델이 현재와 과거 사이의 언어적·인식론적 거리를 가시화하는 도구로 기능할 수 있음을 논하였다. 연구의 사회적 실천과 관련하여서는 공공인문학과 교육의 차원에서 논의를 전개하였다. 생성형 인공지능이 연구 성과를 다층적 미디어로 재구성하고 대중과의 쌍방향 소통을 가능하게 하는 조건을 살폈으며, 시민 참여형 지식 생산과 협업적 아카이브 구축의 가능성을 논의하였다. 아울러 대학 수업 사례를 통해 학생들이 고전여성문학 텍스트를 비판적으로 재해석하는 능동적 주체로 성장할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 나아가 고전여성문학 연구가 인공지능 모델의 학습 데이터 편향 비판 및 과거 언어 맥락 복원에 기여할 수 있음을 제안하였다. 본고는 인공지능과 인문학 연구의 관계를 기술 결정론이나 기술 회의론으로 환원하지 않고, 연구자와 기술이 상호 조율하며 연구 환경을 재구성해 나가는 개입의 관계로 이해하고자 했다는 점에서 의미를 지닌다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper explores how generative artificial intelligence and the digital technological environment can transform the conditions of research and modes of social practice in the field of classical Korean women's literature. Moving beyond the binary debate over whether AI replaces humanistic inquiry, the study approaches the digital environment from a media-oriented perspective, examining it as an intermediary for the production and dissemination of knowledge. Three dimensions of changing research conditions are discussed. First, the paper examines how AI-based optical character recognition and digital archives expand access to classical manuscripts and reconfigure the range of questions and methodologies available to researchers. Second, it considers how quantitative analytical methods such as topic modeling, along with dialogic exploration through generative AI, broaden the horizons of literary analysis. Third, it discusses how models that reconstruct historical linguistic environments — such as TimeCapsule LLMs — can serve as tools for making visible the linguistic and epistemological distance between past and present. With regard to social practice, the paper develops its argument along the axes of public humanities and education. It examines how generative AI enables research outcomes to be recast in multilayered media formats and facilitates bidirectional communication with broader publics, while also exploring the possibilities of citizen-participatory knowledge production and collaborative archive construction. Drawing on classroom case studies, the paper demonstrates that students can develop into active agents capable of critically reinterpreting classical women's literary texts. Furthermore, it proposes that classical women's literary studies can contribute to the development of AI by offering critical perspectives on training data bias and providing resources for the reconstruction of historical linguistic contexts. Rather than reducing the relationship between AI and humanistic research to either technological determinism or skepticism, this paper understands it as a relationship of mutual intervention, in which researchers and technology continuously co-adjust and reshape the conditions of inquiry.
