COVID-19 팬데믹은 감염병 위기를 넘어 사회적 관계와 교육, 노동, 돌봄 환경 전반에 변화를 초래하였다. 학교 폐쇄와 사회적 거리두기, 비대면 환경의 확대는 생애 단계마다 경험하는 발달과업과 심리사회적 변화와도 관련되어 나타났다. 그러나 기존 연구들은 우울, 불안, 스트레스와 같은 정신건강 지표 변화에 주로 초점을 두어, 팬데믹 시기의 심리사회적 변화를 생애발달의 맥락 속에서 통합적으로 이해하는 데에는 제한이 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 Erikson 의 발달이론을 바탕으로 COVID-19 팬데믹 시기에 나타난 심리사회적 변화를 발달 단계별 관점에서 이론적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 국내외 선행 연구를 검토하고, 아동·청소년기, 청년기, 중년기, 노년기로 구분하여 각 단계에서 나타난 특징적인 변화를 정리하였다. 본 연구는 팬데믹 시기의 심리사회적 변화를 단순한 정신건강 문제의 증가로만 이해하기보다, 전 생애 발달의 맥락 속에서 통합적으로 이해하고자 하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 또한 포스트 코로나 시기의 회복 역시 단순한 이전 상태로의 복귀가 아니라, 각 생애 단계에서 사회적 관계와 역할 경험, 발달과 업을 다시 조율해가는 과정으로 이해될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted not only public health systems, but also the social educational, occupational, and caregiving environments that shape human development. School closures, physical distancing measures, and the rapid expansion of virtual interactions altered developmental experiences and psychosocial functioning across the lifespan. Previous studies have mainly focused on mental health indicators such as depression, anxiety, and stress. However, little attention has been given to understanding these changes through a lifespan developmental framework. Drawing on Erikson’s developmental theory, this theoretical review examines how the COVID-19 pandemic affected across four life stages: childhood/adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and older adulthood. By positioning pandemic-related experiences within a developmental framework, this study moves beyond a deficit-focused view that emphasizes mental health symptoms alone and instead highlights the broader ways in which the pandemic reshaped identity formation, social roles, relationships, and psychosocial growth. The findings also indicate that post-pandemic recovery involves restoring social relationships, role experiences, and developmental tasks throughout the lifespan.
