본 연구는 생성형 AI(ChatGPT)를 활용한 과정 중심 교양 영어 수업에 Writing-for-Speaking 전이기반 PAIL 모델(Process-based AI-mediated Language Learning Model)을 적용하고, 학습자의 학습경험과 그 효과를 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. PAIL 모델은 초안 작성, AI 피드백, 수정, 성찰, 말하기수행을 하나의 연속적 학습 과정으로 구조화한 수업 설계 모형으로, 이를 대학 교양 영어 말하기 중심수업에 적용하였다. 본 연구는 2025학년도 2학기 교양 영어 교과목 수강생 22명을 대상으로 하였으며, 학기 말 설문조사(15문항)와 학습 과정 중 작성된 소감문을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 분석 결과, 학습자들은 ChatGPT를 활용한 과정 중심 과제 활동을 통해 이해도 향상, 표현 정교화, 오류 인식 증진 등인지적 수행의 향상뿐 아니라 학습 동기, 참여도, 수행 자신감과 같은 정의적 측면에서도 긍정적인변화를 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 AI 지원이 과정 중심 과제 구조 속에서 학습자의근접발달영역(ZPD) 내에서 상호작용적 비계로 기능하며 수행 범위를 점진적으로 확장한 데서 기인한것으로 해석된다. 본 연구는 생성형 AI 활용 수업의 효과를 결과 중심이 아닌 학습 과정과 학습 경험의변화로 조명함으로써, 교양 영어 교육에서 AI 통합 과정 중심 수업 설계에 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This study examines learning experiences in a process-based liberal arts English course integrating generative AI (ChatGPT) through the application of a Writing-for-Speaking transfer-based Process-based AI-mediated Language Learning (PAIL) Model. The PAIL Model is an instructional framework that structures drafting, AI-mediated feedback, revision, reflection, and speaking performance as a continuous learning process and was implemented in a university-level English speaking course. The study was conducted during the second semester of the 2025 academic year with 22 undergraduate students. Data were collected through an end-of-semester survey consisting of 15 items and reflective learning journals produced during the learning process. The results indicate that learners experienced improvements in cognitive performance, including enhanced comprehension, refined expression, and increased error awareness, as well as positive affective changes such as increased motivation, participation, and performance confidence. These findings suggest that AI support functioned as interactive scaffolding within learners’ zones of proximal development (ZPD) in process-based tasks. By conceptualizing generative AI as a mediator of learning processes rather than an outcome-generating tool, this study offers pedagogical implications for process-centered instructional design in AI-integrated liberal arts English education.
