국문 초록

본 연구는 장애인 평생교육 프로그램에 참여한 비장애인 성인 학습자의 인식 변화와 전환적 학습 경험을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. A시 평생교육센터에서 운영한 무장애보행 프로그램에 참여한 비장애인을 대상으로 내러티브 인터뷰를 실시하고, Mezirow의 전환학습 4단계를 기초로, 전환 과정에서 작동하는 감정, 공간, 정체성, 실천의 다차원적 요소를 분석하기 위해 수정된 분석틀을 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 비장애인은 장애인과의 동행 과정에서 자신의 무지와 편견, 비장애 중심의 일상을 자각하는 불일치 경험을 겪었고, 이는 공간적 충격과 정서적 동일시가 결합된 감정적이며 체화된 경험으로 나타났다. 이러한 경험은 장애-비장애 이분법을 해체하고 장애인을 도움의 대상이 아닌 함께 살아가는 시민으로 인식하게 하는 관점 전환과 일상에서 장애인의 보행 접근성을 살피고 장애인에 대한 차별 상황에 개입하는 시민적 실천으로 이어졌다. 이는 장애인 평생교육이 장애인만을 위한 지원을 넘어, 비장애인에게도 만남과 감정, 공간 경험을 매개로 한 전환학습을 촉진하는 상호학습의 장으로 설계될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the transformative learning experiences of non-disabled adult learners who participate in lifelong education programs for persons with disabilities. Narrative interviews were conducted with seven non-disabled citizens who took part in a barrier-free walking program at a public lifelong learning center in City A, and the data was analyzed using an analytic framework that reconfigures Mezirow’s four stages of transformative learning by incorporating emotion, space, identity, and practice. The findings show that encounters and shared walks with disabled people led participants to experience disorienting dilemmas in which their ignorance, stereotypes, and non-disabled everyday norms were questioned through spatial shock and embodied emotional identification. These experiences fostered perspective transformations in which disabled people were re-recognized not as objects to help but as fellow citizens, and were translated into everyday civic practices such as monitoring accessibility and intervening in situations of discrimination. The study suggests that lifelong education for persons with disabilities should be designed as a mutual learning space that intentionally organizes such encounters, emotional engagement, and spatial experiences to promote transformative learning among non-disabled adults.
