국문 초록

이 논문은 대구 구암동고분군의 발굴 성과와 기존 연구를 종합하여 축조공정별 축조기법과 구조적 특징을 검토하고, 개별 고분의 축조 과정 복원과 고분군의 시대적 기능을 고찰하고자 작성되었다. 이를 위해 고분의 축조공정을 입지 선정, 주체부 구축, 봉분 축성이라는 세 단계로 구분하고, 각 단계의 축조기법과 구조적 특징을 분석하였다. 고분군의 입지는 서주하는 능선이 우선시되었으며, 능선별 주분은 척릉에 위치하여 당대 경관을 통해 위계를 연출하였다. 집단 정체성이 반영된 11자 주부식의 주체부 구축에서는 규모, 위치, 간격, 구성의 차이가 시간적 단선성으로 설명되기보다는 정치, 위계, 계통, 의례, 축조 여건 등이 복합적으로 반영된 결과임을 확인하였다. 봉분 축성에서는 적석분이라는 특이성이 있지만 일반적인 봉토분의 성토기술이 활용되었는데, 이는 정치적 규모의 제약 속에서 당대 기술의 축적과 재해석을 보여준다. 완성된 고분군은 치소지 및 주생활공간과 긴밀히 연계되어 선영으로서 기능하였으며, 단순한 매장 공간을 넘어 집단의 권력기반과 장송 공간으로서 시각화된 의미를 지닌다. 비록 이 논문은 구암동고분군에 한정되었지만 축조공정에 내재한 전략은 당대 다른 고분군에도 적용 가능한 보편적 맥락을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This paper synthesizes the excavation findings and existing research on the Guam-dong Tomb Complex in Daegu to examine construction techniques and structural characteristics by phase, reconstruct the construction process of individual tombs, and consider the complex's functional role over time. To this end, the tomb construction process was divided into three phases: site selection, main structure construction, and mound construction, with analysis of the construction techniques and structural features for each phase. The cluster's sites prioritized west-sloping ridges, with principal tombs positioned on the ridge's crest to project hierarchy through the contemporary landscape. The construction of the main burial chambers, arranged in an 11-character pattern reflecting collective identity, revealed that differences in scale, location, spacing, and composition were not explained by temporal linearity. Instead, they resulted from the complex interplay of political, hierarchical, genealogical, ritual, and construction conditions. Although the mound construction featured the unique characteristic of stone-piled burial mounds, it employed the earthen mound construction techniques typical of the period. This demonstrates the accumulation and reinterpretation of contemporary technology within the constraints of political scale. The completed tomb complex functioned as a ancestral burial site, closely linked to the administrative center and the main living quarters. It transcended a simple burial space, embodying the visual meaning of a collective power base and a visualized funeral space. Although this paper is limited to the Guam-dong Tomb Complex, the strategies inherent in the construction process present a universal context applicable to other contemporary tomb complexes.
