지식인 서사의 변형과 권력의 재배치 - 소설 『축복』과 영화 <축복>의 각색 과정을 중심으로

국문 초록

샤옌은 루쉰의 소설 『축복』(1924)을 영화 <축복>(1956)으로 각색하는 과정에서 원작과 상이한 서사적 양상을 드러낸다. 본고는 이러한 변용을 단순한 충실성의 문제로 환원하기보다, ‘17년 시기’ 중국영화의 정치⋅이념적 조건 속에서 각색 텍스트의의미가 어떻게 재구성되고 배치되는지를 검토한다. 이를 위해 린다 허천(Linda Hutc heon)의 각색 이론을 방법론적 틀로 삼아, 각색을 고정된 결과물이 아니라 맥락 속에서 이루어지는 과정으로 파악하고자 한다. 특히 지식인 서사의 변형, 보이스오버(画外音, Voice-over)의 삽입, 그리고 ‘문턱 찍기’ 장면의 서사적 재구성에 주목하여, 화자 구조와 시점, 장면 연출의 변화가 관객의 해석 가능성과 서사적 의미 조직 방식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석한다. 이러한 논의는 루쉰 각색 연구에서 상대적으로 덜 조명되어 온 각색의 맥락성과 재맥락화의 문제를 구체적 사례를 통해 재검토하게 한다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

Xia Yan's adaptation of Lu Xun’s short story The New Year’s Sacrifice(1924) into the film The New Year’s Sacrifice(1956) exhibits narrative aspects that significantly diverge from the original. This paper interprets this transformation not merely as a matter of ‘fidelity’, but as a reconfiguration of power conducted within the political and ideological context of the “Seventeen Years Period” of Chinese cinema (1949–1966). Employing Linda Hutcheon’s adaptation theory as its methodological framework, this study analyzes the adaptation not as a final product but as an act of ideological appropriation. The analysis demonstrates that the disappearance of the first-person narrator ‘I’ (我)—who held an enlightening authority in the original—and its replacement by an omniscient voice-over(画外音) proves a critical shift in narrative authority. Crucially, the film’s voice-over functions beyond simple commentary, serving as a megaphone for state ideology to control the interpretation of the narrative. Furthermore, unlike the original, where Xianglin Wife’s tragedy arose complexly from the intellectual’s ethical ambiguity, the film explicitly reconstructs the cause of her tragedy as class conflict rooted in exploitation by feudal landlords. This transformation of the intellectual narrative and the reconfiguration of narrative authority illustrate the process by which the cultural leadership of the New China in the mid-1950s appropriated Lu Xun’s critical authority to serve as a tool for regime legitimation, offering important implications for understanding the ideological trajectory of Chinese cinema during the “Seventeen Years Period”.
