루쉰의 「그림자의 작별(影的告別)」 - 어둠을 향해 없는 땅에서 방황하는 처연한 영혼

국문 초록

「그림자의 작별(影的告別)」(1924)은 루쉰의 산문시집 『들풀(野草)』에 실린 23편의 시 가운데 「묘비문(墓碣文)」(1925), 「이런 전사(這樣的戰士)」(1925)와 더불어 가장 중요하고 가장 난해한 시의 하나로 꼽힌다. 우리가 “시화된 철학”이라는 말로 『들풀』 전체의 의미를 요약할 수 있다고 할 때, 루쉰의 사상을 해명하는 자료로서 이 세 편의 산문시보다 더 좋은 것은 찾기 어렵다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 필자는 이 논문에서 「묘비문」, 「이런 전사」에 대한 이전 연구에서와 마찬가지로“시화된 철학”이라는 『들풀』의 특수성에 근거하여 텍스트 분석과 사상적 해석을 고도로 융합시키는 시도를 해 보고자 한다. 해결이 필요한 과제로는 첫째, 이 산문시의탄생을 가능하게 했던 그림자와 형체(인간) 사이의 대립적 구조와 그 의미에 대한 해석이다. 둘째, 그림자의 사상을 집약적으로 드러내고 있는 “난 머무르고 싶지 않아(我不願住)”, “난 차라리 없는 땅에서 방황하리라(我不如彷徨于無地)” 그리고 “난 차라리 어둠 속에 잠기리라(我不如在黑暗里沉沒)”라는 구절의 의미에 대한 해석의 문제이다. 셋째, 그림자가 형체(인간)에게 작별을 알리고 떠나면서 인간에게 주었던 선물, 즉 “어둠과 공허(黑暗和虛空)”의 의미에 대한 해석의 문제이다. 이는 앞서 말한“난 머무르고 싶지 않아”, “난 차라리 없는 땅에서 방황하리라”, “난 차라리 어둠 속에 잠기리라”라는 구절과 더불어 그림자의 사상을 간접적으로 드러내는 핵심적 시어이다. 특히 둘째와 셋째 문제는 핵심적 중요성을 지닌 것이지만 지금까지 연구자들의 주목을 충분히 받지 못했다고 생각한다. 넷째, 예술성의 측면에서 「그림자의 작별」이 지닌 반어적 성격에 관한 고찰의 문제이다. 이는 「묘비문」과 더불어 해당 산문시속에서 루쉰의 사상을 대변하고 있는 것이 과연 어떤 인물인가 하는 논쟁을 집중적으로 불러일으킨 근본 원인이라고 볼 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Farewell of the Shadow (1924), included in Wild Grass, is regarded as one of the most important and most difficult of the collection’s 23 prose poems, alongside Epitaph (1925) and Such a Fighter (1925). If the overall significance of Wild Grass could be summarized with the phrase “philosophy rendered in poetic form,” then it can be said that there are few materials better suited for clarifying Lu Xun’s thought than these three prose poems. In this article, following my previous studies on Epitaph and Such a Fighter, I attempt to closely integrate textual analysis with philosophical interpretation, based on the distinctive nature of Wild Grass as “philosophy realized as poetry.” The issues requiring resolution are as follows. First, the interpretation of the oppositional structure between the Shadow and the Body (human) that made the creation of this prose poem possible, and the meaning of that structure. Second, the meaning of the key expressions that crystallize the Shadow’s thought: “I do not wish to stay” (我不願住), “I would rather wander in the land of no existence” (我不如彷徨于無地), and “I would rather sink into darkness” (我不如在黑暗里沉沒). Third, the interpretation of the ‘gift’ the Shadow bestows upon the Body(human) as it bids farewell—namely, “darkness and emptiness” (黑暗和虛空). Together with the above three expressions, this gift functions as a central poetic sign that indirectly reveals the Shadow’s ideological standpoint. I believe that especially the second and third issues, despite their crucial importance, have not received sufficient scholarly attention. Fourth, I examine the ironic qualities of Farewell to the Shadow from the perspective of artistic form. This issue is closely connected to the fundamental question of which figure in the two prose poems, Farewell of the Shadow and Epitaph, actually represents Lu Xun’s thought—an issue that has sparked considerable debate, particularly in relation to Epitaph.
