대학생의 해외전공봉사 경험에 관한 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 해외전공봉사 참여 대학생들의 시민적 성장 과정을 이해하기 위해 정체성, 교육적 경험, 시민적 경험의 세 차원으로 구성된 Civic-Minded Graduate(CMG) 프레임워크를 활용하여 A대학의 해외전공봉사 프로그램에 참여한 학생들의 학습경험을 분석하였다. 질적 사례연구 방법을 활용하여 참여 학생 28명을 대상으로 포커스그룹인터뷰와 서면 인터뷰를 실시하고 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 참여자들은 정체성 차원에서 지식의 사회적 수탁자로서의 책임감을 형성하고 전공인에서 세계시민으로 정체성을 확장하였다. 교육적 경험 차원에서는 전공 지식을 현장에 적용하며 의사소통과 문화간 역량을 심화하고, 창의적 문제 해결 능력과 현장 적응력을 발달시켰다. 시민적 경험 차원에서는 문화적 다양성을 수용하고 글로벌 이슈를 이해하며, 미래 지역사회 봉사에 대한 구체적 의도를 형성하였다. 특히 세 차원이 상호작용하며 통합되어 참여자들을 시민의식을 갖춘 전공인으로 성장시켰음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 해외전공봉사가 단순한 봉사 활동을 넘어 전공 전문성과 시민적 책임을 결합한 변혁적 교육 경험임을 실증하였으며, 대학의 글로벌 봉사학습 프로그램 설계 및 시민교육 강화를 위한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the learning experiences of university students participating in a global service learning program to understand their civic development process. The study employed the Civic Minded Graduate (CMG) framework, which comprises three dimensions: identity, educational experiences, and civic experiences. Using a qualitative case study methodology, focus group interviews and written interviews were conducted with 28 participating students, and the data were analyzed thematically. The findings revealed that participants developed a sense of responsibility as social trustees of knowledge in the identity dimension and expanded their identity from disciplinary practitioners to global citizens. In the educational experiences dimension, they deepened their academic competencies by applying disciplinary knowledge in field contexts and developed communication and creative problem solving skills while overcoming language and cultural barriers. In the civic experiences dimension, they experienced cultural diversity, gained practical understanding of global social issues, and formed concrete intentions for future community service. Notably, the three dimensions interacted and integrated to foster participants' growth as civic minded professionals. This study demonstrates that global service learning is a transformative educational experience combining professional expertise with civic responsibility, and provides implications for strengthening civic education in higher education.
