국문 초록

본 연구는 현대 사회에서 확산되고 있는 완벽주의적 양육과 ‘다정한 양육’ 담론으로 대표되는 완벽주의 부모가 소진을 가속화하고, 동시에 자녀의 자율성 성장을 저해하는 구조적 요인을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 최근 부모들은 정서적 지지와 감정 조절을 최우선으로 하는 새로운 양육방식을 추구하고 있으나, 이는 과도한 감정노동, 자기비판, 양육 불안을 유발하여 부모 소진으로 이어지고 있다. 더불어 부모의 불안과 과잉 개입은 아동이 불편함과 좌절을 스스로 조절하며 성장할 기회를 박탈함으로써 자기조절, 실행기능, 주도성을 약화시키고 자율성 위기를 심화시킨다. 본 연구를 통해 부모 소진과 자녀 자율성 위기는 서로 독립된 문제가 아니라 상호 순환적 악순환구조를 형성하며, 온라인 비교 문화·조기 경쟁 체제, 전문가 중심 치료 담론 등 사회적·문화적 요인이 그 순환을 강화하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이에 본 연구는 부모의 정서건강 지원 체계 구축, 정서중심형 부모교육 확대, 놀이·자율성 중심 교육환경 재정비, 조기 사교육 억제 및 발달권 보호 정책, 부모-기관 간 역할 조율, 부처 간 통합 거버넌스 구축 등을 정책적 대응 방향으로 제안하였다. 본 연구는 양육을 개인의 책임에서 사회의 공동 책임으로 전환해야 함을 강조하며, 부모소진 완화와 자녀 자율성 회복이 미래 세대의 발달권 보장을 위한 핵심 과제임을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examines how perfectionistic parenting and the contemporary discourse of “gentle parenting” contribute to parental burnout and undermine children’s autonomy in modern Korean society. Although gentle parenting emphasizes emotional attunement and non-punitive interaction, its idealized standards often require intensive emotional labor, constant self-regulation, and heightened self-criticism from parents, leading to increased parental burnout. Parental anxiety and over-engagement further disrupt children’s opportunities to experience manageable frustration, develop self-regulation, and cultivate executive functioning, thereby intensifying the autonomy crisis. A review of the literature reveals that parental burnout and children’s autonomy are not isolated phenomena but mutually reinforcing components of a cyclical process exacerbated by broader sociocultural factors such as online comparison culture, early academic competition, and expert-driven therapeutic systems. Based on these findings, this study proposes policy directions including establishing a national support system for parental emotional well-being, expanding emotion-focused parent education, strengthening play- and autonomy-oriented early childhood environments, regulating early private education, defining clearer boundaries between parents and educational institutions, and constructing integrated governance across governmental sectors. The study emphasizes reframing parenting from a private responsibility to a shared societal task and argues that alleviating parental burnout and restoring children’s autonomy are essential conditions for safeguarding the developmental rights of future generations.
